Happy Mother's Day

These simple words can't come close to articulating my love for you. But since I am 600 miles away, all I have is words. I love you more than you will ever know.

I can’t believe the hands of time
Have moved so fast since 1999
It seems like only yesterday
That the Dr. looked at me to say
It’s a pretty, healthy, baby girl
Oh my, how it would change our world
I was just so very proud of you
That you were tough I always knew
But a miracle had taken place
And I could see the joy upon your face
When you held our Ashlyn that first time
On August 7, 1999

I was only 19 years old back then
And I trying my best to comprehend
Exactly what a good parent should be
And I knew that I should try to lead
But I had no direction where to go
So I let the waves take us to and fro
Forgive me for my lack of faith,
For not leading toward that holy place
That Christian parents should be racing toward
God’s glory is what we should parent for
But I was young and blind and lost and weak
Then God broke our hearts so Him we’d seek

With new hearts and eyes, oh how things changed!
Our parenting would never be the same
We stopped focusing just on outwards things
And began working towards true heart change
This was the time when I began
To see you for the amazing woman
You truly are. You made it your goal to minister
To Ashlyn’s heart through the Holy Word
Do you remember how very long it took,
When we’d sit and search through the Priolo book
To see what verses that we should apply
To Ashlyn’s sin, and how she’d cry
When we told her that it now was time
To get those swats on her little behind.

Then God blessed us with our third little child,
But that quickly turned into another trial
The doctor told us something’s very wrong
We had to act then and we couldn’t wait long
The risk could be that I’d lose you too,
We didn’t know the right thing to do
So we told the doctor “give us time to pray”
And he said “Fine, you can have 3 days”
The miracle God did during that short time
Is now named Kara and she is doing fine
Once again, through the fire you came
You chose our child and ignored the pain
And one day your children will call you blessed
Because you trusted Christ as you were tested

Now let’s move forward to the present time
They are four and seven, how time does fly
You stay home full time to help them grow
In the ways of God so they might know
The hope there is in the risen Christ
That He is the Way, the Truth and Life
You could be out on the corporate scene
Climbing the ladder and seeking worldly things
But you made a choice that you’d sacrifice
To invest all your time into our daughters lives
That’s a gift that they will always cherish
And it will last long after we both have perished
So from the three of us we want to say
We love you, Happy Mother’s Day!
